Common Questions and Answers

Q: Why does the pointer freezes sometimes?
A: Earlier units are incompatible with a small percentage of systems. The pointer will work again by unplugging and plugging the mouse back in. The problem has been fixed in newer production units. Please contact tech support below for a replacement.

Q: Why do some of the buttons not work?
A: When plugged into a PS2 port (round), the VerticalMouse is limited to non-programmable buttons. Use a USB port (rectangular) for full programmability in Win 98 or higher.

Q. Why is the mouse not recognized by Windows?
A. Windows must install a generic mouse driver first.
Connect mouse to USB or PS2 port, start computer.
Verify that light on the mouse is activated.
If Add Hardware Wizard appears, press Next with keyboard.
DO NOT select Search for Best Driver.
Select Display List of All Drivers, press Next.
Select Show Compatible Hardware.
Select USB Human Interface Device mouse, press Next.
Windows Driver File Search for USB HID, insert Win CD.
HID driver installs. Pointer functions.
Install driver update below.

Q. Why does the pointer jump to the screen edge?
A. You are probably using the mouse on a reflective surface. Put it on a completely non-reflective surface, such as a fabric mouse pad.

Q. Why is the pointer so slow?
A. You have an early driver. Install the updated driver below. Uninstall old driver first.

Q. Why is the pointer so jittery?
A. You have an early driver. Install the updated driver below. Uninstall old driver first.

Q. Why is the tracking light not on?
A. There may be a dirty connection. Unplug and unplug in the mouse several times to make a clean connection.

Q. How can I zoom with the scroller?
A. Press the Ctrl key and roll the scroller.

Q. How can I update the driver when I get an error during uninstall indicating that some files are missing?
A. Go to My Computer, Tools menu, Options, View tab, select Show hidden files. Go to C: drive, Program Files folder, Installshield folder. Delete the folder named {B9A…}. The VerticalMouse driver installation wizard will no longer find the old driver, and installation should proceed normally.

Software Driver Update
Uninstall any other mouse software and any previous VerticalMouse driver before updating.
Driver update April 30, 2003.
Click to download. Click Open to download and install automatically.

Uninstalling Driver
Right click the mouse icon on the task bar, click Close to shut down the driver first. Then go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select the driver, click Change/Remove, and click Remove.

Incompatibility
If the driver update does not solve your problem, the driver may be uninstalled. The VerticalMouse can still function as a 2-button mouse without the driver.

User's Manual Update
User's manual update Feb. 10, 2003.

E-mail support
